Printmaking Artist Demos at LA Printer's Fair

Join us at The Los Angeles Printers Fair this weekend for a full day of printing, exhibitions, sales, hands-on activities and much more.

Come find us at Booth #A17 inside the Museum or at the Artist Demos in the brand new Book Arts Center!

In addition to the surplus sale and vendor market place, there will also be Tours, Demos, and Hands-On Printing Activities for visitors to enjoy:

TOURS: Docents will tell you all about the historic printing presses and equipment in the collection and even show you how they were operated.

DEMOS: In the brand new Book Arts Institute teaching lab, Lorna Turner will be leading a Wood Type Slam and the Los Angeles Printmaking Society will be demonstrating various printmaking processes.

PRINTING ACTIVITIES: There will also be printing presses set up around the museum for visitors to print their own souvenirs on.

ARTIST TALK: On Saturday November 6, Featured Artist Tony Guadagnolo will be giving a presentation on his work at 5 pm.

LAPS Demos

Saturday 12:00 noon – 12:45 pm
Jennifer Chen
Hand Printing Monotypes using homemade gelatin plate
Jennifer will show a step by step process to make a homemade
gelatin plate and how it can be used to make prints with stencils and
drypoint plates to create unique printed images. Demo includes a materials
list and step by step QR code link for future reference.

Karen Fiorito
Making a monoprint using silkscreen
Karen will present the layering process used when mono printing with a
silkscreen. This process is used to create variable editions and experiment
with color.

Karen Fiorito is an activist, artist and curator residing in California. Her artwork has been exhibited internationally and featured in major publications and in major museum collections.

Cathy Weiss
Hand Printing Large Woodcut Prints
Cathy Weiss is well known for her large scale woodcut print installations and will demo some of the techniques that she has learned over the years in this creative access demo.

Los Angeles based artist Cathy Weiss was born in NYC and raised in Los Angeles. She holds a BA in Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz and received a Fellowship in Printmaking from Pratt Institute for Graduate Studies in New York. Weiss has curated and organized many exhibitions, and her work has received numerous awards and has been exhibited and collected both nationally and abroad.

Mixing Cyanotype prints with Printmaking techniques

May Roded is a graduate of University of California/ Long Beach and teaches at
LMU, Josephine Press and the Irvine Fine Arts Center. She will be teaching an in-depth workshop with May at the Irvine Fine Art Center soon.
