LAPS has opened a new printmaking studio space located at 3400 Fowler St. in Los Angeles, sharing a subdivided facility with other amazing artists including Chris Berkson and BerksonFab.
The LAPS studio space spans a little over 300 square feet, with a Sturgess etching press, Conrad tabletop press, worktables, flat file storage, and a library of printmaking catalogs and resources. Select inks, papers, and other materials may also be available.
The common areas in the facility include a small library, piano, wash out sinks, a silkscreen washout booth, meeting space, loading dock, easy parking, and multiple bathrooms.
LAPS recently hosted an open house and reception at the studio and will participate in the upcoming LA Design Weekend September 30, 5-10pm
Keyholder Printmaking Residency
For its first studio program, LAPS will offer Keyholder Residencies to LAPS members including 24-hour access to a fully equipped printmaking studio for up to two months, providing Keyholders the freedom to develop new work, experiment with techniques, and expand their artistic practice on their own schedule. The residency includes access to all equipment listed above.
As part of the residency, Keyholders become active members of the studio community by exhibiting their work and engaging with the public. Each Keyholder is asked to host two community events: a two-hour opening reception and a hands-on workshop of at least two hours. These events provide opportunities to share your artistic practice, connect with fellow artists, and introduce others to the art of printmaking.
The Keyholder Residency is built on collaboration, respect, and shared responsibility. To help maintain a safe and welcoming studio environment, Keyholders are expected to use hybrid or water-based inks and low-odor printmaking materials, respect shared studio spaces, and minimize noise by using headphones whenever possible.
Whether you’re developing a new body of work, exploring new techniques, or looking to connect with a vibrant community of printmakers, the Keyholder Printmaking Residency offers the space, resources, and support to help bring your ideas to life.
