Printmaking meets origami in this unique exhibition

Paper Boats 2022 the Flotilla

May 4 – June 3, 2022
Opening Reception: Friday, May 6, 5:30 pm

SG Gallery of Scuola Internazionale di Grafica
Seconda del Cristo, 1798, 30121 Venezia VE

Following the very successful ImMigration project in 2019, SG gallery is delighted to present “Paper Boats – a flotilla”, an installation of unique prints organized by Mary Sherwood Brock for the Los Angeles Printmaking Society.

Artists were asked to explore the symbolic theme of water and by extension, how this conception and design could be transformed into another relationship with water, a paper boat. The fragility of the folded paper boats creates another layer of the theme as a symbol of creativity, resourcefulness and resilience in the face of global challenge and change.

“Paper Boats” is a uniquely collaborative project presented here with the original 20 artists selected for the portfolio exhibiting prints both folded and flat  (verso/recto) and a collection of unique folded prints created by 36 artists specifically for this installation. The artists participating come from all over North America and include an artist from the island of Guam, an artist in China and several European artists . The flotilla of paper boats grows with each installation!

“Paper Boats” was exhibited at Self Help Graphics in Los Angeles in 2020, at the Museum of Art Fort Collins in 2021 and after the installation in Venice, will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico as part of the 2023 SGCI from the Los Angeles Printmaking Society.
